Cheerleading is one of the things that students in high school tend to admire and watch in awe. It is one of the best activities that an individual can engage in. Cheerleading provides an ideal avenue for students to relieve stress while at the same time offering their colleagues the much needed support in game situations. Cheerleaders are known for their flexibility. Hence it is very important for any individual who wants to be a cheerleader to ensure that s/he is in great physical shape. Strength and endurance are the hall marks of a great cheerleader and these can only be attained through training and adhering to a well-balanced diet that supplies the body with all the nutrients that it needs.
The workouts that a potential cheerleading team partakes in can greatly influence the success or failure of the team. A successful training regime for cheerleading teams should include;
Warming Up and Stretches
Any physical trainer will insist that you engage in a physical warm up session before you start the rigorous training exercises. The warm up exercises ensure that you get your body in the right shape to allow the body to take in the good that will be derived from the exercises. The cheerleaders are supposed to encourage their teams to take some few minutes in conducting warm up sessions. The warm ups can be in the form of jogging on a treadmill, rope skipping, or running in place. The warm up sessions also help to prevent the possibilities of getting physical injuries. After the warm up session the cheerleading team should take a few minutes in performing stretches.
Cardiovascular training
Using a treadmill can be one of the easiest ways of including cardiovascular exercises. This is because most of the treadmills that are in the market today include numerous cardio training programs. The treadmills also include very important instruments that you can use to monitor your progress. For instance these treadmills include a heart rate monitor to help you keep track of your heart’s rate during the workout.
Muscle/strength training
Cheerleading involves the use of a lot of power especially when it comes to the formation of patterns through partner lifts. Thus having the right amount of strength in the right places is very important. Cheerleaders should engage in exercises that help to build strength and muscles. Most of the exercises for cheerleaders can be conducted through the use of their own body weights to strengthen and build muscles on the arms, legs, back and shoulders. However additional equipment can be used for strength training.
Flexibility training
The more flexible a cheerleader is the better placed s/he is placed in achieving want has been sent out for the team. Flexibility helps the cheerleaders to avoid injuries and allow them to do some of the most complicated tasks. For flexibility training an individual can enroll in a yoga class or simply perform long stretches
With the right training for cheerleading teams it should never be hard for cheerleaders and their teams to attain the best results.
