In this world where shoe l The Little Tramp is hired by a circus and soon becomes the main attraction when his comedic blunders drive the crowd wild.
In this high-fly Wandering the city streets, the Little Tramp happens upon a blind flower girl who mistakes him for a rich man. The Circus is generally considered one of Chaplin's best comedies and came in the middle of a run at United Artists that takes up half of this list.
However, it was also his most troubled production. Chaplin was hit with several personal tragedies while making the film, including the death of his mother, a divorce from his second wife, and an IRS investigation.
The film, which follows Chaplin's Tramp as he becomes the unintentional hit of a circus roadshow, stalled for eight months. It ended up becoming one of the highest-grossing silent films ever.
Charlie Chaplin once said that The Gold Rush was the film he wanted to be remembered for. The classic brilliantly blends tragedy and comedy as it follows the adventures of Chaplin's Tramp as a gold prospector in the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush.

The film has some of Chaplin's most iconic moments, including the dance of the rolls and the Tramp boiling and eating one of his own shoes.

It is about a man who used his movies to finance his lifestyle, his sex life, and his famous exile in Switzerland. This is a film with the tawdry curiosity of a "Dallas" or "Dynasty.
The screenplay, by three writers, is a whirl of name-dropping and arch dialogue, in which famous Hollywood names alternate with Charlie's latest conquests.
The plot structure is so ancient it creaks, assigning to Chaplin's brother Sydney Paul Rhys , for example, the thankless task of being wrong about everything so that Chaplin can be seen as right by the time Chaplin is preparing " The Great Dictator ," a role his famous mustache predestined him for, Sydney is helpfully begging him not to play Hitler.

This short play was what Chaplin originally came to London to appear in. After three nights, Gillette chose to close Clarice and replace it with Sherlock Holmes.
Chaplin had so pleased Gillette with his performance in The Painful Predicament that he was kept on as Billy for the full play.
It began when Essanay extended his last film for them, Burlesque on Carmen , from a two-reeler to a feature film by adding out-takes and new scenes with Leo White without his consent.
Chaplin applied for an injunction to prevent its distribution, but the case was dismissed in court. In addition, the company compiled another film, Triple Trouble , from various unused Chaplin scenes and new material shot by White.
Research has uncovered no evidence of this, and when a reporter asked in if it was true, Chaplin responded, "I have not that good fortune.
Chaplin responded by playing a Jew in The Great Dictator and announced, "I did this film for the Jews of the world. This lasted until the next morning, when Chaplin was able to get the gun from her.
Barry broke into Chaplin's home a second time later that month, and he had her arrested. Both Chaplin and Barry agreed that they had met there briefly, and according to Barry, they had sexual intercourse.
In California at this time, blood tests were not accepted as evidence in legal trials. Edgar Hoover first requested that a Security Index Card be filed for Chaplin in September , but the Los Angeles office was slow to react and only began active investigation the next spring.
The MI5 found no evidence of Chaplin being involved in the Communist Party. In , Chaplin supported the unsuccessful presidential campaign of Henry Wallace ; and in he supported two peace conferences and signed a petition protesting the Peekskill incident.
In his autobiography he wrote, "I am not religious in the dogmatic sense I neither believe nor disbelieve in anything My faith is in the unknown, in all that we do not understand by reason; I believe that Retrospectives of his work were presented that year at The National Film Theatre in London,  the Munich Stadtmuseum  and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which also dedicated a gallery exhibition, Chaplin: A Centennial Celebration , to him.
